I wonder whether the multiline logo was inspired by Vibro and its ligature for ‘ss’ in particular. See also Stripes.
Hi Florian, the inspiration mainly came from the op-art syle Olympic logos by Lance Wyman for Mexico ’68 and Otl Aicher for Munich ’72. The original drawing had eight lines, but this was reduced to six in the design development stage for practical production issues.
I hadn’t Vibro seen before but it looks great. I like what they’ve done with the ligature you linked to. The way they have designed the characters with diacritics is really nice too.
Donald, thanks for your reply! Lance Wyman’s Mexico 68 certainly is a design icon, and, together with Prisma, one of the most influential multiline alphabets.
