In Pieces is an exhibition of 30 endangered animal species, each made of 30 polygons created via the “clip-path” CSS property.

The sole font used for the website is Bloc, ParaType’s version of Hermann Hoffmann’s Block from the early 1900s. Block is a soft but substantial display face with compact dimensions and an organic appearance. It’s a good stylistic fit for this project, but I think it doesn’t serve the longer text passages very well. Designer Bryan James improves readability by adding plenty of letter-spacing, but Block’s heavy weight and condensed width just isn’t meant for body copy. I would consider paring it with FB Hermes, also based on type by Hoffmann, and better suited for text.

    1. Regardless of the wisdom of it, there’s something very punk rock about doing an entire website in Block – the condensed weight, no less! I’m surprised he didn’t commit to not using the letter 'e’ too while he was at it. Wow.
