Formerly known as Ornamented No. 1513, this face
originated about 1854 with the Caslon foundry. [McGrew] Reichardt
mentions the Bruce foundry. Farmer’s Ornamented series
is distinguished by more spurs in the lowercase. Austin Wood had
this style as Ornamented (all caps) and Tuscan
Shaded (w/ lowercase). Cast as Bailey Shaded by
Charlie Broad at Typefounders of Phoenix in the 1950s. Matrices
were sold to the Los Angeles Type Founders and then on to Barco
Type Foundry and Skyline Type Foundry. [Skyline, TH Groves]
