A photocompositor typeface collaboratively designed by Herb Lubalin and John Pistilli. It was first shown in 1964.
Sold by Lettergraphics as Roman No. 1 (1968) and Mecanorma as Estella.
Eloquent (Jason Walcott) and OPTI Pirogi (Castcraft Software) are two digital interpretations of the face, but no officially authorized revival has been made. Claude Pelletier’s freebie digiziation under the original name — “recreated Pistilli with John Pistilli’s son’s ‘blessing’” [Dafont] — is not very well spaced. See also Didoni.
