Onyx

Designed by Gerry Powell and released by ATF in 1937 as Onyx. The Amsterdam Type Foundry had this design as Arsis. Also produced by Lanston Monotype, for which Sol Hess added Onyx 4041 Italic in 1939. [Reichardt 2011]

There are digitizations under both names, Onyx from Monotype (also Adobe), and Arsis from URW (also Linotype). Note that Onyx by Bitstream (also Tilde, Linotype) is a digitization of a different face, see Poster Bodoni Compressed.
