This entry covers the italic styles of West
Behemoth, designed by Dave West for Photo-Lettering.
Behemoth Clarendon Italic 11 is shown in
Alphabet Thesaurus Vol. 2 (1965).
By 1967, a swash variant was added, which is shown in Vol. 3
(1971) as Behemoth Clarendon Italic Swash. It’s
distinguished by swash forms for caps and several lc letters
including ‘dghklnrtvy’. It also has no entry strokes and less
pronounced exit strokes on ‘aim’ etc.
The non-swash italic was digitized by Martin Wenzel, with some
alternates, and is used for the sample. As of December 2020,
West Behemoth and West Behemoth Italic are
available from House Industries as Plinc Behemoth.
