Released by Mecanorma around 1977, Gary Cooke’s Garbo was shortly after selected for the logo of Dutch band Mistral. This synthpop project was started by Robbie van Leeuwen of Galaxy Lin (and previously The Motions as well as Shocking Blue) and Rick van der Linden in 1977, featuring a rotating cast of uncredited female singers. [Discogs] Garbo’s bi-line/outline letterforms are placed against a narrow cartouche. The logo first appeared on the sleeve of their second chart hit “Starship 109” from March 1978.
