Buhe-Fraktur-Schriften der Schriftgießerei D. Stempel AG«
In: Typographische Mitteilungen, Vol. 19, Issue 7, July 1922
The double-headed eagle appears to be signed with an HS (or SH?) monogram.
Walter Buhe (1882–1958) designed Buhe-Fraktur after he became a teacher at the Berliner Kunstschule in 1912, succeeding Ludwig Sütterlin. His typeface was first cast by the Stempel foundry in Frankfurt in 1915, together with a halbfett. The fett weight shown here followed in 1922, after World WarI. By then, Buhe had been appointed Professor for Applied Graphics at the Leipzig Academy (today known as HGB Leipzig), a position he held for 27 years.
