Mustapha Tettey Addy – Les Percussions du Ghana album art
This album by Ghanaian master drummer and ethnomusicologist Mustapha Tettey Addy (b. 1942) features a 1979 solo performance, recorded at the Festival des Arts Traditionnels in Rennes, France. It was released in 1980 on Arion. [oopswhoops] Artwork by Jacques Butterfass, with photography by Djamel Farès.
The font in use is the elusive Acapulco. This typeface was issued in 1973 by the Visual Graphics Corporation (VGC) and camein three weights – our friend Shin Oka has shared glyph sets on Daylight Fonts. The weight used here appears to be the Medium. As a semi slab serif with (some) stencil bridges and swashes, it defies the conventional buckets of type classification. There are several digital interpretations, none of which is complete. I haven’t found a designer credit for Acapulco. If you know more, let us know in a comment.

Cover designer Jacques Butterfass used Acapulco already in 1977 for another release by Arion, see Ceylan by Noël And La Ceylonians. Here it’s Acapulco bold in all caps, together with Americana.
