Lettering by Atelier René Knip for two residencies built by N2 architecten (now Theo Kupers Architecten) on the grounds of the Westergasfabriek, Amsterdam. From Westerparkkunst (2008, translated):

“You can enter whenever you want, but you cannot stay” is the slogan when it comes to the positioning of KunstENhuis: two pavilions in the Cultuurpark Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. The pavilions were commissioned by the Westerpark District and can be used for a limited period by people or organizations who want to take up a challenge in the field of the creative economy for a day, a weekend, a week or a month.

Knip released the lettering as a typeface (uppercase and numerals) named Angular (Arktype) in 2012. “KunstENhuis” is a wordplay on the two meanings of its name: “Art AND house” and “Home of the arts”.

    1. Do you happen to know whether KunstENhuis is the original application of Angular? Atelier René Knip doesn’t explicitly mention it on the web page for the typeface, but it (exclusively) shows images of this use.

    2. Many (most?) of the Arktype faces started out as a custom lettering — I see you asked Janno and René if that’s also the case for this one.

    3. Over on Twitter, Janno Hahn replies that he made a custom lettering for a statue in Dordrecht in 2006 (while working for Rene) and a few years later that lettering became the Angular typeface.
