From Work – A History of How We Spend Our Time by James Suzman:
After all we work to live and live to work and are capable of finding meaning, satisfaction and pride in almost any job (…). The work we do also defines who we are; determines our future prospects, dictates where and with whom we spend most of our time; mediates our sense of self-worth; moulds many of our values and orients our political loyalties.
The way we work takes a huge impact on our lives: We fulfill roles, that form our personality, our social life, our goals, our habits – and our health and wellbeing! Every time people work together, they build processes and structures, controlling the everyday life at work. In this social design process, mental health is a key word to consider.
This bachelor thesis project, made at HBKsaar, displays a campaign for mental health at work. It is the projects aim to support trust and transparency in the operational corporate context and establish a sustainably healthy working atmosphere. The strategy contains various touchpoints in print, like a newspaper series and a handbook. Furthermore, it offers an interactive website for employees as a digital tool for information and evaluation of personal mental issues and processes concerning current situations at work. A poster series transfers the campaign into the public urban space.
FF Tisa Sans was chosen for Calm Compass because of its soft impression and friendly effect, conveying openness and practicality. It is typeset in dark blue with green accents, rather than hard black, to reinforce this impression. With regard to its use in print and digital media, the typeface was especially tested for display quality and legibility in various sizes and contrasts. Karmina expresses clarity with its pronounced serifs and slanted curves – and it contrasts harmoniously with the friendly Tisa Sans as the main typeface.
