Francesco Simoncini

Italian entrepreneur, engineer, and type designer, 1912–1975. Joined the business of his father Vincenzo (1881–1954) who produced spare parts for Linotype machines. After Francesco visited the Mergenthaler Linotype and Intertype companies during a trip to the USA in 1950, producing matrices became the primary focus of the newly formed Officine Simoncini S.p.A. in Bologna.
