Based on the lettering of Martin Jacoby-Boy. Initially released
by Stempel in 3 weights in 1912. The
sample shows the fett (bold). Expanded with
schraffiert (hatched, 1913) and verziert
(ornamented, all-caps, 1913) styles, italics
(2 weights, 1914), condensed styles
(2 weights, 1922), and a
licht (highlight, i.e. verziert without the
pimples) style in 1926, resulting in a series of 10 styles
altogether. [Klingspor-Museum] Bigger sizes also made in wood. Six
styles were available in a Cyrillic version. [Seemann,
Bertheau]
The fett was known as John Bull in England. The
halbfett was sold by Fondografica (as Velletri). Also
sold by Caslon (as Paladin, 5 styles), Ardinghi (as
Serie Moderna), Nebiolo (as Rolando),
Fondografica (as Roma) [Reichardt] and Funtimod
[Aragão]
