The typeface is ITC Ronda by Herb Lubalin (1970). The digitally available versions not only lack the bold weight. They also neglect the numerous alternates available in the original, like the two-storey a or the straight t.
The title page contrasts Didot caps with Bernhard Schönschrift.

I come to this site regularly and it’s really cool to see this picture of Gertrude Stein which was taken in my grand mother’s house in France =)
