A Shift in Perspective: An Investigation into Creativity from Constraint
The discipline of visual communication, similar to many others, underlies a great deal of pressure, as it involves a high need for surprising, unconventional ideas: creative solutions. The publication A Shift in Perspective: An Investigation into Creativity from Constraint examines not only whether or how one can influence creativity but also whether constraints can promote the creative process. Furthermore, since creation is often associated with freedom, this project intends to change how the creative process is perceived. Divided into two parts, this book addresses the framework behind creativity from theoretical and empirical perspectives.
The publication features the old-style, Renaissance inspired typeface Reckless Neue as major design element. The elevated x-height and high contrast provide a distinctive characteristic and nourish the else subtle, restrained graphic layout. For body text and markups I used the versatile Suisse Int’l in the Book weight, to find visual as well as semantic balance.
A Shift in Perspective was made as a graduation project at FH Johanneum and produced in a limited print run.
