Although Reebok hasn’t used the typeface for over a decade, for many consumers Motter Tektura has been the face of the shoe company since the 1970s. In 2002, the brand abandoned the typeface for their main logo, but does break it out with the Union Jack for their throwback product lines (shown below).

This Reebok logo was introduced sometime in the 1970s. It was later revised for the Reebok Classic Collection “a collection of products characterized by the brand’s past”.

This is a good overview of Reebok’s logo history … with one obvious errror: it is not possible that Motter Tektura was used all the way back to the shoe company’s founding in 1895 because the typeface wasn’t designed until 1975.

In 2019, Reebok has officially returned to Motter Tektura for their wordmark. Brand New took a close look at the new logo and identity. It was done in-house in collaboration with Darrin Crescenzi, who comments:

Presented the opportunity to unite Reebok under one banner, my challenge was to comb through Reebok’s vast archives to understand which of their many logos had the most equity and potential to unify the previously separated performance and lifestyle divisions, then modernize that asset to meet the needs of today’s communications and the latest methods-of-make.

Resurrecting the Reebok Vector logo satisfies every goal we set out to achieve — it’s beloved, dynamic, and looks amazing on footwear and apparel.
