In 1964 the Vienna International Garden Show (Wiener Internationale Gartenausstellung, WIG) was opened. The show marked the start of a new era in post-war Vienna. The new Donauturm (“Danube Tower”) with its futuristic revolving restaurant and the Blick über Wien (“View over Vienna”) was one of the main attractions. The 1970s poster advertises bargain packages (access plus food) for visiting the tower. The typefaces in use were new (Benguiat Caslon, late 1960s) and modern (Antique Olive, 1962) at the time and although very different, they still are very typical representatives of the 1960s/70s.
The picture was taken in the exhibition The 1964 Vienna International Garden Show –
Green post-war modernismshown in the Wien Museum till the end of August 2014.
