Also spelled ParaType. Originated as a font department of ParaGraph International in 1989 in Moscow, Russia. A license agreement allowed the manufacture and distribution of typefaces by Polygraphmash, the state research institute where all typeface development in the Soviet Union was concentrated. Paratype was established as a separate company in 1998 by Vladimir Yefimov (1949–2012) and Emil Yakupov (1957–2014).
Note that in Sep. 2022, Paratype’s current CEO, Anna Yakupova, spoke out in favor of Russia’s annexation of the occupied territories of Ukraine. For that reason, we stopped linking to their site.
