Caledonia is W. A. Dwiggins’ 1938 invention after mixing Scotch Roman and Bulmer styles. Sold by the German Linotype and Stempel as Cornelia, and by Kobundo as Dandy.
In the late 1980s, Linotype released New Caledonia, removing some of the constraints placed on the original metal design, and extending the range of weights. Bitstream’s Transitional 511 is a digitization with shorter descenders.
