First cast by the Weisert foundry in Stuttgart, Germany in 1904, the typeface with the tendril-like strokes is named after Swiss symbolist painter Arnold Böcklin (1827–1901). It got a new lease of life in the late 1960s as part of the Art Nouveau revival.
