This fat face originally known under the generic name Fette Antiqua (“Fat Roman”) was first cast by Bauer in 1850, followed by the italic Fette Kursiv (1851) [Reichardt 2011]

Versions and copies available from many other foundries, see e.g. Berthold’s Normande. Similar (or identical) cuts of the roman further include Fette Antiqua G fett (Berthold), Moderne fette Antiqua (Schelter & Giesecke, Stempel, credited to “Mac Kellar 1830”), Fette Antiqua (Weisert, 1932), Patricio (Schriftguss, 1931), Rakete (Norddeutsche Schriftgießerei, before 1933) [Wetzig 1926–40].

The Roman was digitally revived by Peter Wiegel and extended with Cyrillic and Greek characters and two additional weights, a Shadow and a Hollow (outlined) version. Released as Fette Bauersche Antiqua (used for the sample) under the SIL Open Font License in 2012.
