One of the larger series of modernized oldstyle faces issued in the late 19th century, spanning 11 styles incl. two licht (open/outlined) widths. Started before 1900. [Reichardt 2011] The roman was registered in Nov. 1898, [Reichsanzeiger] the Cursiv in Feb. 1901. [Reichsanzeiger]

The basic roman and italic styles were offered in two versions, Elzevir 1 and 2 (latter with an angled base serif on ‘u’). Fette Elzevir offered swash initials. First cast by Gursch and later by Berthold. Note that there are several unrelated releases by other foundries under the same name.
